System RequirementsThe standard LAN based Inventory Pro for Windows (IP4Win) product is based on Microsoft Access which requires just a standard PC running Windows 98, 2000/NT4+, XP-Home/Pro, ME, Vista-Home/Business on the desktop to run. (Sorry, this product does not work on the native MAC or Unix/Linux platforms). The IP4Win installation kit includes the run time version of Microsoft Access; so you do not need any other software to run IP4Win on a standalone PC. Although not tested, MACs running a Windows emulator (Parallels) should work with IP4Win. Most PCs run the application fine. If your PC is of the "antique" variety it should at least be: Pentium 166MHz with 32 MB of RAM and 100 MB of free disk space IP4Win should work with any printer that has a standard Windows driver. We usually recommend printers with roll media to print barcode labels on (Zebra, Datamax, O'Neil). Please call us to discuss your printer specific requirements. IP4Win does have the ability to generate PDF reports, so installing Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download on the Internet at www.adobe.com) is optional. IP4Win also has the ability to interface with Microsoft Word and Excel files. The IP4Win Access database is not encrypted or locked. The database may be opened and queried by other programs. CISS does not recommend writing directly to the database outside of the IP4Win application - as this may cause corruption and the application to fail. IP4Win does support the Microsoft Office AddIn Manager and is easily customized using this tool. New tables can be added to the database to support any custom programming you may wish to create - or contract with CISS to create the customizations for you. You can literally write an application within the application to meet your business requirements. Please see our software developers toolkit for further instructions. Windows Server NTv4/2000/2003 are the standard server environments for Inventory Pro for Windows and Inventory Pro Online. The IP4Win product will run in a peer-to-peer network environment (no dedicated server); although we usually discourage this environment as it is generally unreliable. Inventory Pro is licensed and supported on three standard backend database engines:
Inventory Pro Online’s (IPOL)
internal system rests on a solid three-tier, object-oriented, client/server
database application foundation widely recognized as the industry standard.
Cutting-edge innovations (ASP®, ActiveX®, Java®, etc.) are
employed on every tier, taking advantage of the latest achievements
in this field of information technology. Please view the more detailed
IPOL Architectural Outline for
